The Bordeaux Bottle Shape

The Bordeaux bottle is easy to recognize: straight sides, high, defined shoulders, and a long neck. The shoulders do a practical job. When the wine is poured, they help catch sediment, which is one reason the shape became the standard for age-worthy reds. Today it’s the traditional choice for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Bordeaux-style red blends. It’s also widely used for Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, usually in lighter glass.
