The Burgundy Bottle Shape

The Burgundy bottle has gently sloping shoulders and a wider body than a Bordeaux bottle. It’s the older of the two shapes, and it remains the traditional choice for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Many wineries also use it for Syrah, Grenache, and Rhône-style blends, as well as aromatic whites such as Viognier and Pinot Gris. If your lineup leans toward these varietals, the Burgundy shape signals that on the shelf before anyone reads the label.
